Scrolling ...Hey, glad you got it going in the end.

Scrolling on Firefox is one of the most obvious signs of the tearing I was having, so if you can't see it, it's a good sign.

(I actually ended up fixing my tearing, but forgot to update this particular post with a link to the fix. Should do that now...)
Ashhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09080258468361776457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7893589061578918424.post-23999983154164757942013-07-03T15:45:11.585+09:302013-07-03T15:45:11.585+09:30I'm the anonymous bloke from the other comment...I'm the anonymous bloke from the other comment on the ATI card, I finally switched over the cards today, and it wasn't quite painless - the nouveau driver was loading fine, but something in my existing config was crashing me out during desktop log in. Looking at the xorg log didn't show the error, and making a new user didn't exhibit the problem.

Oddly enough, if I logged in then immediately switched to the console, then switched back, I was able to get into the desktop... at which point all my autostart programs crashed, throwing dialogue boxes everywhere.

I opened a terminal and used your commands above, and from there it Just Worked. I imagine it would have Just Worked if I had installed this machine afresh, but right now I'm too busy to do further hunting in the logs. I'm using ubuntu 12.10, so it's whatever nvidia drivers live on that (304.88-0ubuntu0.1)

I haven't noticed any tearing yet, but I've only tested it on long webpages - no HD videos here and I can't really crack open a game at work :D

Thank you very much for the write-up. Good luck with your tearing issue.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
